Sports Desk: Rafael Nadal clinched his 14th French Open title by defeating the world number six rookie Casper Rudd at the Roland Garros on Sunday.
The Norwegian Rudd who happens to be trained in Rafael Nadal’s tennis academy in Mallorca, Spain, appeared in his debut grand slam final, but seemed to be totally unmatched in front of Nadal’s might and experience.
By putting up a dominant performance since the very first set of the match, Nadal won the match by outplaying his opponent in three straight sets with the final score of 6-3 6-3 6-0.
With this victory, Nadal has extended his Grand Slam title tally to 22, ahead of his closest rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, and highest by any tennis star in the history of the sport.
Following the match, the Spaniard thanked his support staff and the crowd for their support.
Regarding his future as a professional tennis player, Nadal said his career ahead is still uncertain as he has been playing with multiple pain killer injections due to a chronic injury in his left foot, for which he is also looking for alternate treatment options.
Due to this, Nadal’s participation in the forthcoming Wimbledon Championships is also in doubt.
Earlier, in the women’s singles final, world number one Iga Swiatek of Poland beat US’s Coco Gauff to win her second French Open single’s title.
