Sports Desk: Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the gold medal match in the 50 kg category. She was disqualified by the Olympic authorities for a little excess weight of around 100 grams.

Phogat has created history by becoming the first woman wrestler for India to reach a gold medal match at the Olympics.

She has reportedly filed an appeal against the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sports and has also requested the game authorities to jointly award her the silver medal or allow her to play the final match.

She was about to wrestle for the gold on Tuesday after defeating top wrestlers, including the gold medal winner of the Tokio Olympics in her previous bouts.

The news of her disqualification came as a big heartbreak for the Indian fans who were looking forward to her final bout with much anticipation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also conveyed his unhappiness on social media and said that the setback hurts. He also hailed Phogat and said that she is a champion among champions and an inspiration for every Indian.

Social media users from around the world have also given mixed views on the issue. While some said that rule was a rule which needed to be followed, others were of the view that disqualifying some one for just 100 grams overweight was a discrimination.

Meanwhile, some people have also attempted to add a political dimension to the issue. Notably, Phogat was part a protest led by a group of wrestlers against the chief of the wrestling body in India which lasted for many days.
