Elon Musk buys 9.2 per cent stake in Twitter and becomes its top shareholder
Business Desk: Tesla CEO Elon Musk is a new shareholder of American microblogging brand Twitter.
According to reports, Musk has bought 9.2 per cent stake in the social media platform and spent around USD 3 million for the same.
Elon Musk has not given any official statement about his new investment so far.
Although, reports have suggested that after the news of his new connection with Twitter broke out, the shares of the social media brand surged by 25 per cent in the pre-market trading.
Musk has been a regular user of Twitter. He is highly popular and has around 80.1 million followers in the platform.
However, lately his Tweets have generated controversies.
Recently, he even did an online poll where he asked his followers to vote whether they thought Twitter adhered to the principles of free-speech and expression.
After over 70 per cent participants stated no, Musk revealed that he was giving a serious thought to begin his own social media platform.
