Orban era ends in Hungary! What does it mean for EU and US?
Global Desk: A dawn is about to begin in Hungary! The Peter Magyar led Tisza Party is set to form a new government in Hungary, ending Prime Minister Victor Orban’s 16-year regime through the Fidesz Party.
In the recently concluded election, Tisza has managed to severed a resounding mandate and secured 137 parliamentary seats, which is enough for a two third majority. While the alliance led by the Fidesz Party could win only 55 seats despite the support from US and Russian leaders, reports the Budapest Times.
In his victory speech, Magyar said that people have reclaimed the country and liberated Hungary. He added that the victory was visible not from the Moon, but from every Hungarian window – whether it is the smallest rural home or a tower block apartment in a major city.
Conversely, the outgoing Prime Minister Victor Orban congratulated the winning party and said the outcome was painful, and assured that even form the opposition his party would continue to serve the homeland and the Hungarian nation.
This mandate has lot of implications. Electing Peter Magyar, might mean that Hungary could lean more towards the European Union, making the EU stronger. This might even lead to positive ramifications for Ukraine. Alternatively, the loss of Orban might negatively affect Russia. It might isolate Moscow in Europe. Likewise, US President Donald Trump is set to lose a key European ally, weakening his global network.
