Wimbledon: Elena Rybakina defeats Ons Jabeur in the ladies’ finals
Sports Desk: Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan is the new Wimbledon champion. On Saturday, she defeated Ons Jabeur, who is a professional tennis player from Tunisia.
After losing the first set by three games to six Rybakina made a remarkable comeback in the final two sets and outplayed Jabeur by six games to two in both the sets, with the final score of 3-6 6-2 6-2.
Both the players played their first Wimbledon and a grand slam final match.
Rybakina, who turned pro in 2016 is currently ranked 23 in the word. Whereas Jabeur is ranked number two in the latest WTA rankings.
On Sunday, in the gentlemen’s final match, Novak Djokovic will defend his title against Australia’s Nick Kyrgios who got an automatic birth in the Wimbledon finals after Nadal withdrew from the championships due to an abdomen injury.
