Australia wins the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, defeats England by 71 runs

Sports Desk: The Australian women’s cricket team have clinched the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The final match which was held at the Hagley Oval stadium in New Zealand’s Christchurch saw the Aussie’s side comprehensively defeat England by 71 runs.

After batting first, Australia set a massive target of 365 in 50 overs, with the help of Alyssa Healey’s 170 of 138 deliveries. The Australian side maintained a run rate of 7.12 in their innings.

England in return maintained a very good run rate. However, after losing wickets in regular intervals they managed to score only 285 in 43.4 overs.

Nat Sciver was the only consistent batswoman in the English innings who remined unbeaten for 148 in 121 balls.

With this the Australian women’s team have been crowned as the world champion for seventh time, which is the highest so far by any team in the ICC Woman’s World Cup history.

This year the tournament was jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand and saw the participation of 8 teams.

The Indian side failed to reach the semi finals after finishing fifth on the league stage table.

Alternatively, the other two teams from the sub-continent Pakistan and Bangladesh finished at the bottom of the table.
