Sports Desk, 31 March, 2022: On Monday, Indian weightlifter and Olympic silver midlist Mirabai Chanu was honoured with the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year.
Reacting to this achievement, Chanu in her official media statement thanked the BBC for the award and said that she is training in the United States at the moment.
Further, she also added that she would give her best in the Commonwealth and Asian games and win gold medal for India.
Chanu who hails from North East India’s Manipur scripted history in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by winning a silver medal at the 49kg women’s weightlifting category.
With this, she also became the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal at this hight sporting stage.
After her name was announced by the BBC, she was inundated with hundreds of congratulatory messages in the social media.
