Iga Swiatek reaches the pinnacle of world tennis, becomes the first Polish to be the world no. 1

Sports Desk, 27 March, 2022: Professional tennis star Iga Swiatek has become the new number one in the women’s world tennis rankings.

Swiatek, who is just 20 years old, has become the first tennis player from Poland to hold the top position in the women’s tennis (WTA) rankings.

Moreover, reports also say that she is the first tennis player born in the 2000s  who has become the world number one in the history of men’s or women’s rankings.

In response to her feat, Swiatek took to the social media platforms to express her happiness.

By posting a picture of her own on Instagram, she said that the moment felt surreal for her.

Besides, she also added that she proved herself a lot during the last couple of days.

“I’m pretty sure that tomorrow the sun will shine exactly the same way as today but for now…it feels surreal. Let me just say that I proved myself a lot in the last couple of days,” she said.

Following her post, her fans and the tennis fraternity extended their congratulatory messages and good wishes.

One of the fans replied “Iga, keep being yourself. Your passion, your fearless are the best at this moment. No matter what, you are always 1ga in our minds. Congratulations and enjoy it!

Similarly, in another fan on Facebook said “Iga you deserve it! Your attitude, hard work and determination has got you to the pinnacle of women’s tennis.”

Young Iga who has a long way to go in her career, has won only one grand slam title so far at the Ronald-Garros last year. Although, very recently, she had lost in the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 2022.

However, as a player she has been constantly performing well at the WTA tournaments. Recently she was also crowned champion at the Miamai Open and Indian Wells Masters Open in 2022.
