Ukraine pleads for India’s support, Modi holds emergency meeting

National Desk: On Thursday evening, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi presided over an emergency review meeting concerning the war unfolding in between Russia and Ukraine. The meeting was held in the national capital New Delhi.

Apart from the prime minister, other leaders like the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minster Amit Shah, Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, among others also participated in this emergency meeting.

According to recent reports, the prime minister accessed the current developments unfurling in Ukraine.

It has been also known that Modi is likely to engage in a telephonic conversation with the Russian President Vladimir Putin over the issue later in the day.

So far, India has maintained a neutral position on the issue as it mostly does during any international conflict. However, earlier in the day, ambassador to India from Ukraine Igor Polikha expressed his unhappiness over India’s position in response to the situation.

He described Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as one of the most powerful and respected leads currently in the world.

He also said that “India should now fully assume its global role” and support Ukraine during these difficult times.
