Tech Desk: As AI develops at an unprecedented speed, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates raises a serious concern about ‘three big risks’ associated with the technology.
In his personal online blog Gates Notes he says AI will have significant impact on the job market. He believes that many job will be taken away by robots and automation. It will impact both the white-collar and blue-collar jobs, deeply affecting entry and mid-level jobs and raise unemployment within the community.
Secondly, AI could be a huge threat to social and individual safety and security. Gates warns that AI also has the ability to empower people to do more harm and use it for unlawful activities. It can equip criminals with even little skills to harm others, starting from cybercrimes to spreading disinformation to even making explosives. This will pose a serious threat to both individuals and organizations.
Likewise, AI models could also be malignant for children. It could stunt their development and replace human relationships. Excessive dependence on AI could also make them addictive and lead to problems like loneliness, anxiety, depression, and inability to think critically.
Bill Gates have raised some genuine concerns. At a time when AI is developing faster than we can think or adapt, his insights deserve close attention.
