Global Desk: Sri Lanka has been witnessing an unpresented curfew and protests in response to its ongoing economic crisis.

According to recent reports, social media has been blocked by its government.

Besides, over 600 people have also been detained for breaking curfew protocols and protesting against the government.

The resent crisis is due to Sri Lankan government’s failure to repay foreign money which it borrowed for multiple developmental projects. Due to this, the nation has stopped receiving supplies from other countries.

As a result of this turmoil, the country is facing a catastrophic inflation, price rise, and unavailability of basic stocks. Citizens have been waiting in long queues for basic necessities like gas and food every day.

This has dealt a serious blow to the nation’s economy and every industry including its tourism has been impacted. Even some of its leading newspapers have ceased publication due to the unavailability of newsprint.

Its national media, opposition political leaders, and its bar association have opposed the current steps and the emergency declared by the government.

Meanwhile, India has offered economic aid to Sri Lanka, however it will unlikely sustain for more than a month.

This is the worst economic emergency Sri Lanka has ever witnessed.
