Global Desk: The most popular Ganesha in India has received over 3 million donations during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja – the king of Lalbaug – got these donations within the first three days of the festivity from its devotees who thronged to the pandal in extreme numbers to invoke the blessings of the deity.
According to reports, the donations did not just include money in form of cash in Indian and foreign currencies, but also comprised of precious materials and jewelry like gold and silver, and even cricket bats. Besides, it also received huge amount of sponsorship money from heavyweight corporates like the Ambanis.
The Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesha is regarded as the most beautiful Ganesh idol in Mumbai. Its design is legally protected by its sculptures and the organizers. It is believed to be ‘Navsacha’ Ganesha, which means the wish fulfilling Ganesha.
Devotees come from all over the country to have a glimpse of the deity during the 10-day festival. The pandal is also a center-stage of celebrities from the film industry to corporate from every faith and field. Starting from Bollywood icon Sharukh Khan to the US Ambassador to India, prominent figures from across industries visited Lalbaug this year.
Getting a glimpse of the famous Ganesha is a herculean task, as devotees have to queue outside the pandal form over 12 to 15 hours on each day of the celebration. Even the immersion procession at the end of the festivity offers a spectacle worth watching.
