Music: Bollywood singing icon Asha Bhosle no more

Art Desk: Iconic Bollywood singer Asha Bhosle breathed her last 12 April, 2026. She was 92. She was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai where she died of cardiac arrest and organ failure.

Bhosle mesmerized her audiences for more than eight decades. She came from the famous Mangeshkar musical family. She was also one of the siblings of legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar.

However, Bhosle made a unique identity of her own as a musician. During her decorated career she was known for her playful voice and ability to adapt across different genres from classical to Indi-pop. Even in her later years she could effortlessly captivate younger audiences with her musical persona.

She sang in multiple Indian languages and received numerous accolades during her career. She was also recognized by the Guinness World Records for the most studio recordings by any artist.

The news of her passing away was outpoured with condolences from across the Bollywood film industry. Actor Shahrukh Khan wrote on social media that Asha Bhosle was one of the pillars of indican cinema and would continue to resonate world over for centuries to come.
