India: Plane accidents continue to make headlines in India. In a recent plane tragedy in Maharashtra, its deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar has lost his life.

The incident unfolded after Pawar’s charted flight failed to safely land on the runway in Maharashtra’s Baramati area while he was on his way to attend a meeting.

Reports suggests that the crash happened on the second landing attempt by the pilot after failure to safely land on the first attempt. The incident is being reviewed by the authorities to determine the root cause of the mishap.

Ajit Pawar was a veteran leader from the Nationalist Congress Party and had significant popularity in Maharashtra. He had been the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra on multiple occasions and was widely known as ‘Dada’ which means big brother. His death has left a huge power vacuum within his party and the state of Maharashtra.

This tragic accident along with frequent incidents including the recent Air India horror has once again raised serious questions about the safety of air travel in India and the state of its aviation industry.
