Indian women’s hockey team wins FIH Nations Cup

Sports Desk: The Indian women’s hockey team have won the inaugural tournament of the FIH Nations Cup held in Valencia, Spain from 11th to 17th December.

In the final match the women in blue defeated the hosts Spain 1 – 0 after the full time.

The match’s only goal came through a penalty corner from Gurjit Kaur early in the first quarter during the 5th minute.

As a result of this outcome, India have been promoted to the top level FIH Pro League for the 2023-24 season.

Indian women’s coach Janneke Schopman in a Tweet said that this is a great finish to the 2022 and she is proud to be the coach of these amazing girls “who show what it means to be a team every single day.”

Hockey India have congratulated the Indian team and have also awarded a prize money of INR 2 lakh for each member.  

Prior to their final challenge, team India who finished fourth in the Tokyo Olympics outclassed teams like Ireland, South Africa and Chile earlier in the tournament, keeping their top class and consistency since the beginning.
