Global Desk:  Anti-government protests continues to take place in Iran after the death of 22-year-old woman Masha Amini after she was reportedly tortured in the police custody for not wearing a hajib as prescribed by the government.

In addition to the university campuses, which have become the centre stage of the revolution, the crusade has also reached the streets and public places of the major cities of the Islamic nation.

According to reports, the government is finding hard to manage the intensifying protests even after arresting over 14,000 people so far. Besides, it has also been estimated that over 200 people have already been killed during the protests.

Meanwhile, the social media have become the main platform through which the Iranians are voicing against the government. It is also making the present revolution – which had started two months back – a global campaign against religious misogyny.

A viral video of the protests held in the capital city Tehran protesters were seen chanting slogans like “death of the dictator”.

Similarly, another video showed crusaders using words like “pervert” and “whore” against the establishment, “I am a free woman”, among others.

Additionally, women were seen knocking off the turbans of men on streets and destroying police kiosks. This however has received mixed reactions from the global community.

Women in Iran have also come out on the streets without the traditional hajib to protest against the government and ask for equal rights. Moreover, recently they were also seen chopping their hair in demand of justice for Masha Amini and gender equality.

The Iranian celebrities like musicians and actors residing across the world have also joined the protests with their artistic performances through the social media.

The ongoing situation have sparked international condemnation and support for the protesters fighting to topple the authoritarian regime.

In the meantime, US President Joe Biden expressed his solidarity and support to the Iranian people and said that America will free Iran. “We are going to free Iran”, he said as Iran observed the 43rd anniversary of the US Embassy seizure on Friday.
