Global Desk: World’s largest democracy and second most populated country India has a surged ahead of the UK to become the fifth largest economy of the world.

According to a report from the Bloomberg India surpassed the UK during the final three months of 2021 when the world was just beginning to recover from the ruins of the Covid pandemic and lockdowns.

The calculation of the same has been done through the GDP figures of both the economies by the International Monetary Fund in terms of US dollars, the report stated.

Moreover, in the coming years it has also been estimated that the Indian economy will continue to grow till 2026 with an estimated growth of 7 per cent.

Ironically, a decade ago India was placed in the eleventh position while UK was at the fifth place. With this India which was the colony of the British Empire till 1947, is now only behind United States, China, Japan, and Germany.

The British media believes that this has a come at a very unpropitious time for the nation as it is in the process of selecting its next Conservative government leader. The recent rise in the cost of living, the impact of the Covid lockdowns on the economy, and the Ukraine war has been regarded as the root cause this outcome.

Meanwhile, a leader form India’s ruling BJP Sambit Patra stated during a press interaction that Indian economy going past UK at the time when the nation is celebrating its 75th year of independence from the British rule should be regarded as a ‘poetic justice’ for the former colony. Furthermore, he also appreciated the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that nothing is impossible under Modi’s leadership.
