Regional Desk/India: Northeast India’s megastar Zubeen Garg was given final goodbye by the people of Assam with an honorary state funeral in Guwahati on 23 September 2025.
Before his final rites his mortal remains was kept at a sports complex in the city, allowing his fans to pay their last respects, who came in overwhelming numbers.
A sea of fans and his well wishers from across the region and country became part of the final procession from the stadium to the place of his cremation. It became the fourth largest public gathering according to the Limca Book of World Records.
Multi-talented Zubeen Garg has sung over 30,000 songs in multiple languages including Assamese, Bangla, and Hindi. Apart from being a singer, he was also a filmmaker, author, producer, social activist, and a philanthropist.
He is regarded as a larger-than-life figure in his state Assam and the cultural brand ambassador of the northeast India region.
Garg passed away while doing a scuba diving in Singapore, where he was scheduled to perform at a musical festival.
