Business Desk: Skype, which is a well-known video calling platform is set to be closed down permanently.
By thanking its customers Microsoft– who owns Skype – announced on social media that Skype would no longer be available form May 2025.
To keep the users’ contact and chat history safe, Microsoft also stated that Skype users would be able to use its alternative platform Microsoft Teams with their Skype account for free and stay connected with their contacts.
Through a blog post in Microsoft.com, it also said that users would be able to use similar features in Teams along with several additional features, and they would also be able to export all their Skype data to Teams. Once Skype used to be one of the pioneer brands used by millions for video calling. However, with the rise of social media, and many other platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime, it lost its customer base and started declining. Its closure is definitely an end of an era in the world of virtual communication
