World Oral Health Day – Six tips for toothache free life

Lifestyle Desk: Having a toothache? Well, our oral health is as significant as our overall health. Because if we lack strong oral health it limits our ability to eat which can lead to other health complications. On this World Oral Health day, which is observed on every 20 March, here are six ways you maintain a strong oral health and a healthy lifestyle.

  1. Brush twice: maintaining oral hygiene is the most important when it comes to cavity free tooth. Medical practitioners say that brushing twice a day for at least two minutes can prevent most of the dental problems. Brushing at night has been regarded more important than morning.
  2. Right toothpaste: there is nothing like the best toothpaste or anything. A local dental practitioner in the Guwahati, India said that you do not have to use any special toothpaste to keep your teeth healthy. Any regular toothpaste found in the market works, as toothpaste are just used to make your brushing more comfortable. There are different types of toothpastes in the market these days with different flavours and with specialized needs like for sensitive teeth. Most of these advertisements are just marketing as the basic value they provide are all same. However, some literature also says that the inclusion of fluoride in toothpaste is good.
  3. Use of dental floss: using dental floss after brushing is also useful, as brushing alone may not be able to reach every part of your tooth, especially in between the frontal teeth. Therefore, flossing regularly can be helpful.
  4. Mouthwash: mouthwash can be another alternative to brushing, although it cannot replace brushing altogether. Some practitioners suggest that we should mouthwash regularly after a brush, while some say that mouth wash also has its detrimental effects as the chemical within it might discolour your teeth. However, mouthwash helps in cleaning your entire mouth and tongue and also helps in preventing cavities and treatment of bacterial infections in gums.
  5. Avoid sweet food: brushing or cleaning is not only enough. Eating the right food is also important. Most people have dental problems like cavity due to too much consumption of sweet food or food with too much carbohydrate. A local practitioner in Guwahati says that people have too much oral problems nowadays because they have a habit of regularly consuming things like soft drinks, sweets, candies, coffee, sugary drinks. In fact, he also stated that soft drinks like coke is so strong that it can even be used to clean toilets.
  6. Dental check-up: moreover, regular dental check-ups, at least once a year can be helpful in this aspect. Many people often do not visit dentists due to procrastination or fear even after going through dental problems. However, doing this can only aggravate their problems.

Thus, if these we take these small steps like maintaining oral hygiene by brushing twice a day and by following the right flooding habits than most of our dental problems like toothaches can be avoided.
