BJP have won in Gujarat again, Himachal chooses Congress

India: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has retained power in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat. The saffron party won 156 seats in the 182 seats assembly. The Congress Party came second with only 17 seats. Meanwhile, the much talked about Aam Admi Party (AAP) managed to win only 5 seats in its debut election in the state.

Alternatively, in Himachal Pradesh where assembly elections were also held, the Congress has reclaimed power in the state after being away for five years. In the 68 seat assembly, the grand old party won as many as 40 seats and now set to form the new government. The BJP won in 25 constituencies. While AAP failed to open its account in the state and replicate the Delhi municipal election glory and its earlier victory in Punjab.

With BJP’s win in its old bastion Gujarat, known for its business culture, incumbent Bhupendra Patel is set to remain the Chief Minister.

Besides, in Himachal Pradesh, where the voters have been known to vote back Congress and BJP every alternate election, its new chief minister is still not conformed. Interestingly, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi had not campaigned is the state as much as Priyanka Gandhi did.

BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have congratulated the party members of Gujarat and Himachal and also thanked the voters for supporting the party.

The results of the assembly elections I both the states were announced on Friday, 9 December, 2022.
