Global Desk: Donald Trump is back on Twitter after more than a year. The former US President’s account was visible with the iconic blue tick mark on Sunday.
The decision of bringing him back on the multi blogging platform was taken by its new owner Elon Musk after asking users through an online poll if Trump should be reinstated on the platform.
Around 134 million people were reached through this poll with 15, 085, 458 people casting their votes. As per the final results, people in favour of Trump’s return ended up with the majority with 51.8 per cent in comparison to 48.2 per cent who said no.
Following the mandate, Elon Musk tweeted that “the people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei”.
Shortly after this the former President’s account was back on Twitter with his profile name @realDonaldTrump.
All his previous tweets including the ones which were posted during the US Capitol violence were also visible.
Reacting to this, Trump however has not shown much happiness. While speaking to the media he said that he does not see any reason to be back on Twitter and would rather stick to his own social media platform Truth Social which is doing ‘phenomenally well’ with better user engagement.
Earlier last year, he was permanently removed from the platform in view of posting provocative tweets. Since than Trump was never seen on Twitter and other key social media platforms.
His return to the platform has been received mixed reactions. Some doubtful about the authenticity of the of the poll, because it is still unclear if the votes were casted by actual profiles or even the bots which are present in large numbers in the platform were also its participants.
