Editorial Desk: The 5th day of September of the year is celebrated as the Teachers` Day synchronizing with the birth anniversary of Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the scholar extraordinary, besides being the President of India.
Dr Radhakrishnan was a professor in Calcutta University, and also in different universities of the world in varied capacities. The nation has also chosen to celebrate the day as teachers` day across the country.
It is indeed a happy day for the teachers. But a section of teachers is not happy for being set aside under the rule of state government in 2017. The rule has stipulated 1.1.16 as the cut-off date for the provincialization of elementary and secondary level schools. The rule has brought in pleasure and pain for a good number of working teachers, it is alleged. If the rule is amended by the state government a good number of teachers will be benefitted.
The present government under the leadership of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is expected to ponder over the matter for the larger interest of the teaching community.
