Monkeypox virus reaches India, first case detected in New Delhi

India: The monkeypox virus has reached India! According to reports from the media, the first case of the virus has been identified in a 34-year-old man from New Delhi on Sunday.

He is a resident of West District with no recent history of foreign travel. Although, a report says that he recently returned from a trip from Himachal Pradesh, after which he experienced fever like symptoms and skin lesions.

The man has admitted to the Lok Nayak Hospital in the city and has been isolated from other patients. Additionally, his close contacts have also been quarantined.

In view of this, a high-level meeting has been scheduled by the Director of Health Services (DGHS) to access the current situation of the virus.

According to a social media post by the Chief Minister of New Delhi Arivind Kejriwal the man is stable and recovering.

Kejriwal further urged everyone not to panic as the situation is under control at the moment.

He also said that a team is looking after the case in order to prevent the spread of the virus in the city.

On Saturday, the World Health Organization (WHO) had declared the monkeypox virus as a global health emergency after it reached more than 70 countries.
