Yashwant Sinha to be the face of opposition in the presidential election

National Desk: Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha has been selected as the candidate from the opposition for the forthcoming presidential election in India.

Sinha’s name was proposed for the mega election by the opposition camp which includes parties like Indian National Congress (INC), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Trinamool Congress, and others.

This was announced by a leader of the Congress party after a joint meeting of representatives of various opposition parties was held in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Following the decision, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated Sinha and said that he is “a man of great honour and acumen, who would surely uphold the values that represent our great nation!”.

Likewise, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar stated that Sinha is qualified enough to uphold the secular, democratic, and constitutional values of the nation.

He further urged all the opposition political parties to unitedly support Sinha so that the nation can have a worthy and unopposed President.

Yashwant Sinha, who hails from Patna, Bihar, is a veteran political leader who has handled some important portfolios and served as the Minister of Finance and Minister of External Affairs during his political career.

Sinha was part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) until 2018 before he joined the Trinamool Congress in 2021. However, he begin his career as the member of the Janata Dal in the 80’s.

Before plunging into politics, Sinha worked at the Indian Administrative Service, which he resigned in 1984.

Presently, he is serving as the vice president of the All Indian Trinamool Congress.
