Sports Desk: Indian women boxer Nikhat Zareen have cinched the gold medal at the Women’s World Boxing Championship in Istanbul, Turkey.
On Thursday, Zareen thrashed Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas in the 52kg weight category.
According to reports, she defeated her opponent in all the bouts with a final score line of 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28 to clinch the gold.
With this historic win, she has become the fifth Indian to win a gold medal at the world championships.
In addition to Zareen, two other boxers – Manisha Moun and Parveen Hooda – have won bronze medals at the same competition.
In reaction to her historic win, the sports fraternity and leaders across fields inundated her with good wishes on various social media platforms.
Congratulating her on this achievement, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi said that the Indian boxers have made the nation proud.
“Our boxers have made us proud! Congratulations to @nikhat_zareen for a fantastic Gold medal win at the Women’s World Boxing Championship. I also congratulate Manisha Moun and Parveen Hooda for their Bronze medals in the same competition,” he said.
Besides, the Chief Minister of her home state Telangana K Chandrashekar Rao also expressed his delight and congratulated Zareen for the gold medal.
Nikhat Zareen, who hails from Nazimabad in Telangana, had earlier won several medals at a number of national and international boxing competitions. This also includes a bronze at free-weight category at the Asian Championships held in Bangkok in 2019.
Additionally, she represented India in multiple junior and amateur boxing stages in the past. She also won a gold at the Women’s Youth and Junior World Championships in Turkey in 2011.
