Assam flood: Rahul Gandhi urges Congress members to help in rescue operations

National Desk: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday empathized with the people of Assam who are facing the horrors of the ongoing flood situation in the state.

In a social media post, Gandhi appealed to his party members to continue extending support and assistance to the rescue and relief operations in Assam.

“Lakhs of people are affected by severe flooding in Assam. I urge Congress workers and leaders to continue extending all possible assistance to the rescue & relief operations,” he stated.

Several parts of Assam are deluged under water due to incessant rain during the last few weeks, leading to the overflow of the Brahmaputra River. Many villages and towns have been affected due to this. Additionally, it has also disrupted the normal transport and communication in the due to blockage of roads and landslides in several locations.

According to recent reports, over 6 lakh people have borne the brunt due to the havoc caused by the flood. Besides, the wildlife within the state has also been severely affected.

The teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Assam State Disaster Management Authority are working constantly to rescue affected people and supply daily essentials in the affected areas.
