PM Narendra Modi visits Assam, inaugurates several developmental projects

Regional Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Assam to inaugurate several developmental projects on Thursday.

He began his itinerary in the morning by attending the “Peace, Unity and Development Rally” in Diphu, Karbi Anglong.

During this, he laid the foundation stone of three educational institutions, which includes the College of Veterinary Science, College of Agriculture, and the Model Government College in the region.

Additionally, he also launched 2,985 Amrit Sarovars, which comprises of over 75 water bodies of one hectare area each, which will be helpful for water conservation and livelihood generation.

In his address at the rally in Diphu, PM Modi said that his government is committed to preserving the culture of the tribal communities in the state and thanked the people for giving him the opportunity to work towards solving their pending problems.

Besides, he also said that today Northeast India is moving towards an era of progress from the era of violence.

He also added that he will never forget the love and affection of the people of Karbi Anglong, where the diverse culture of Assam was in full display.  

From Diphu, the Prime Minister travelled to Dibrugarh in the afternoon and inaugurated a cancer hospital in the premises of the Assam Medical College Hospital.

He also inaugurated six other cancer hospitals in six other parts of Assam, which includes Barpeta, Tezpur, Jorhat, Darrang, Kokrajhar, and Lakhimpur.

Additionally, Modi also laid the foundation stone for cancer centres in seven other locations of the state from the venue.

In addition to the Prime Minister, industrialist and the former chairman of the TATA Sons Ratan Tata was also present in the event.

The cancer hospitals have been built under the joint initiative of the Government of Assam and the TATA Group.

It has been informed that it will be a network of 17 cancer hospitals which will be the South Asia’s largest affordable cancer care centres.

After the inauguration, PM Modi said that the cancer hospitals will amplify the healthcare facilities in the Northeast India as well as the South Asia region.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal; former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
