Business Desk: Tesla CEO Elon Musk is set to be the new owner of the social media giant Twitter Inc.
On Tuesday, Twitter announced that it has reached an agreement with Musk on selling the social media platform for an amount of USD 44 billion.
Reacting to the new deal, Musk stated that Twitter is the ‘bedrock’ of democracy and free speech where vital issues that matters to the ‘future of humanity is debated.
Besides, he also said that he wishes to make the social media platform better by introducing new changes and features in its functioning.
Among them, Musk is likely to introduce features that would help authenticate all the users of the medium. Similarly, to increase trust in the platform he might make Twitter’s algorithm an open source, and also do more to make it spam free.
Alternatively, he might also introduce an edit button in the platform as he himself wished in the past in one of his own tweets.
In his statement, Musk also added that he looks forward to working with the company which he believes has tremendous potential to be unlocked by the community.
The latest step by Twitter comes at a time when the brand is going through a rough patch in the market.
Moreover, in the recent times it has been at the receiving end of public criticism, especially from politicians and other public figures in its handling of free speech and misinformation.
