War heroes of 1971 Indo-Pak war honoured at a special event in Guwahati

Regional Desk, Guwahati: Commemorating the war heroes of the of the 1971 war between India and Pakistan, the state government in Assam organized a special honorary function on Saturday.

The event was held at the premises of Guwahati’s Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra.

In addition to the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh was present as the chief guest of the programme. Besides, the Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi was the guest of honour.

In his address to the gathering, Rajnath Singh appreciated the sacrifices of the heroes of the 1971 war.

Alternatively, he also appreciated Srimanta Sankerdeva for his huge contribution in the social and cultural development of the region.

Further, he also acknowledged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and called him a talented chief minister.

During the function, the war veterans and their family members from the state were also felicitated by the government. Besides, a new book on Indian Armed Forces was also released on the occasion.

The event also presented a number of patriotic cultural performances from various artists and defence personals from around the state.

Additionally, Rajnath Singh also inaugurated a photography exhibition in Guwahati which showcased the events that unfolded during the 1971 war.

The  programme was held under the initiative of Government of India’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in celebration of the nation’s 75 years of independence.
