Regional Desk: Congress leader and the member of legislative assembly (MLA) from Gujarat’s Vadgam Jignesh Mevani was arrested by the Assam Police on Wednesday.
According to reports, Mevani was arrested by the police officials from Palanpur, Gujarat.
He was arrested in relation to an alleged inflammatory post in a social media platform against which an FIR was filed by a resident of Bhabanipur village in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Tuesday.
Recent reports say that Mevani was detained in Palanpur and then transported to Ahmedabad.
Later, he was flown by the police to Guwahati, Assam, and form there he was taken to the Kokrajhar district where the FIR against him was registered.
Mevani is under the police custody at present.
His party members and supporters have severely criticized the arrest.
