Editorial Desk, 28 March, 2022: Police atrocities on the people have multiplied. Perhaps the police have forgotten that human treatment to people is their prime culture. Assaulting the people black and blue has become a culture of the police. They are meant for the security of the citizens. Offenders need not be subjected to inhuman atrocities by the police. The teenaged boy has been beaten and flogged by the police SI for stealing a packet of biscuit from the Lahorighat police station, Assam. The teenaged boy, may be due to his hunger or tendency for a biscuit, might have taken the packet of biscuit. For that he had to have hellish flogging on his body. This does not speak well for the police force which is meant for the security and safety of the common people. Instead of flogging the police could have given the boy another packet of biscuit. That response from the police would have changed the mindset of the teenaged boy. Besides, the boy would have been a friend of the police. Under that situation, the friendliness would have established a friendly rapport between the police and the public. Our police force needs orientation by specialists and experts. We have every reason the express our agony that our security is entrusted to those police personnel who have no love or compassion even for a child.
