UK observes ‘National Day of Reflection’ to mark the second anniversary of Covid lockdown

Global Desk, 23 March, 2022: The United Kingdom is observing the second anniversary since the declaration of the first Covid lockdown in 2020.

To remember the occasion, a charity named Marie Curie along with the support of the UK government planned multiple events to observe this day as the ‘National Day of Reflection’.

As part of this, the people have been asked to observe a minute of silence in the midday of 23rd March to remember all those who lost their lives due to the pandemic.

Besides, they have also been encouraged to light candles or display flowers in their windows at 8 in the evening.

Two years back on this day, the Government of UK ordered all business establishments, educational institutions, medical centres to close down. The people were also told not to socialize and remain shut inside their homes and come out only in case of highly essential activities like grocery shopping.

UK is one of the most severely affected nations due to the virus. In 2020 the NHS was overburdened with an excess of Covid patients. Thousands of people died each day, with the total death toll reaching around 1.64 lakh till present.
