Sports Desk, 21 March, 2022: On Sunday, India’s star shuttler Lakshya Sen lost the final match of the prestigious All-England Badminton Championships 2022. He was defeated by Denmark’s Victor Axelsen.
Sen, who is currently ranked 11th in the world badminton men’s rankings had lost to world number one Axelsen in straight sets, with a final score line of 21-10, 21-15.
20 years old Sen scripted his name in the history of Indian badminton by becoming the fifth shuttler and the fourth man to reach the finals of this illustrious tournament.
Before Saina Nehwal in 2015, the very last time a man competed in the finals of this tournament was Pullela Gopichand in 2001.
Following Sen’s performance in the tournament, he was poured with good wishes from the sports and political fraternity.
The president of the Badminton Association of India Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Sen performed superbly, and he has a long way to go in his badminton career.
Likewise, the Union Minister of Sports Anurag Thakur said that Sen’s performance was “truly historic”.
Alternatively, former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar stated that Sen made every Indian proud by reaching the finals of All-England Championships.
Born in Uttarakhand’s Ulmora, Sen seemed to be promising badminton player since a very young age. In addition to becoming the junior world number one, Sen also won a single’s gold at the Asian Junior Championships in 2018, and mixed event gold at the Summer Youth Olympics.
