Editorial Desk, 20 March, 2022: All the sensible people have raised their eyebrows after having seen the atrocious vandalism of the traffic police over a biker saddled by his wife and child in the back seat. Paltan Bazar is the hub of the city of Guwahati. It is a very busy place for every pedestrian, bikers and taxis and buses. Police are shown to have an errant biker on the busy road. On that pretext, the biker has been beaten by the police on the road quite mercilessly in the name of law and order. When the police started beating the biker husband, his wife and daughter fell on the middle of the road and received injuries. The traffic on the road came to a halt because of the vehicular traffic and human snarl around the place of incidence. Had the biker been errant he could have been fined. Instead, the biker was punched by the police inhumanely before the public. The matter has become viral, and many questions are being asked by the people regarding the illegal working style of the police. It is also quite amazing that not a single man from the public snarl came forward to save the situation. Such a situation makes us feel insecure. As and when the incident became viral the errant policeman has been suspended instead of giving him any punishment. Suspension is not punishment, law says. We feel the errant police involved in the inhuman atrocities should be arrested and appropriate legal action taken against him. The abettors of the errant policeman should also be punished by registering cases against them. for their violation of a citizen`s dignity and honour. The policemen of this category have brought in disrepute to the established discipline of the police force. If the situation goes unattended people will lose faith in the security apparatus provided by the police. People`s` faith and confidence over the police should be protected from getting pedestrianized It is also a matter of minute scrutiny that these errant and offensive police officials should be released from their positions for public safety.
