Sports Desk, 17 March, 2022: Manchester United has crashed out of the ongoing UEFA Champions League.
On Wednesday, the iconic club from the English Premier League was outplayed by Madrid based Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the of the round of 16.
They were defeated 1-0 in the match, with an aggregate of 2-1 from the first leg of the faceoff.
Manchester United did better than Atletico in terms of overall possession in the game. However, they could not make a comeback or score a goal after Brazilian left-back Renan Lodi scored for Atletico at the 41st minute.
Following the defeat, United’s interim Manager Ralf Rangnick stated to Manchester United TV that the team played in an energetic manner and had full control in the first half. Unfortunately, the team could not convert that energy into a goal in the first half which was highly important.
Further, he also blamed the match officials for not conceding a foul on Anthony Elanga during the match, and added that the referee could not understand the delaying tactics of the opposition. He said that the game saw many interruptions and was not played for more than 3 minutes without being stopped for some reason or the other.
With this defeat, United’s bad form continues to trouble them even under the guidance Ralf Rangnick. Earlier, they also had faced a miserable defeat in a derby match against Manchester City.
