Global desk: As Russia wages war on Ukraine on Thursday, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has announced that it has no plans of sending its forces yet to help Ukraine fight Russian aggression.
The Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg stated this on Thursday, soon after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a special military operation in Ukraine and unleashed attacks in multiple regions, including its capital city Kyiv.
Stoltenberg also said that there are no NATO troops inside Ukraine right now. However, he also added that it has increased the presence of its troops to its eastern side of the alliance, which includes countries like Lithuania and others.
Currently, NATO has around 150,000 troops, 100 fighter jets, and over 120 war ships ready to thwart any aggression from Russia, Stoltenberg added.
The leaders of the NATO is likely to meet on Friday to decide what steps to take next and its way forward in dealing the situation.
Key world leaders like the President of United States Joe Biden and Prime Minister of United Kingdom Boris Johnson have reproached Russia’s actions and promised to take strong reactionary action, including the imposition of tough economic sanctions against Russia.
