Global Desk: Singapore has elected an Indian President. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, has been elected as the first Indian origin President of Singapore.
In the recently concluded elections, Singaporeans chose Tharman Shanmugaratnam over Chinese origin alternatives.
Shanmugaratnam, who is regarded a statemen and economist belongs to the centre-right People’s Action Party.
During his political career he has held many ministerial positions and worked in various posts in the public sector.
Earlier, he also took charge as the as the deputy prime minister and the minister of finance.
In terms of education, he is an alumnus of London School of Economics and Harvard University.
