FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off in Australia and New Zealand

Sports Desk: The FIFA Women’s World Cup has kicked off in Australia and New Zealand, who are the joint hosts of the foorballing extravazenga.

The penultimate tournament which is set to be held for a month started on 20th July, with the final match to be played in Sydney on 20th August, 2023.

It will be the first tournament where 32 teams will be competing for the trophy, as previously only 24 countries had featured in the 2019 edition.

Apart from the major footballing countries from Europe and South America, five countries from Asia have qualified for the competition. It also includes teams like Vietnam and Philippines.

This is also the first ocassion when two countries are co-hosting Women’s World Cup.

Defending champions USA would be wanting to become the first country in the history of FIFA to grab the trophy for third time in a row.

At the same time, England, who are the current European champions would also aspire to replicate the glory to be the word champions.
