Regional/Entertainment Desk: Legendary Assamese film actor Nipon Goswami breathed his last on Thursday after he was being treated in the Nemecare Hospital in Guwahati due to his deteriorating health.
The film and at fraternity of the state and the country have expressed their heartfelt condolences on his demise and termed as a indelible loss to the Assamese film industry.
In a statement on Twitter, the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma also extended his disappointment over the news and recalled his childhood acting moment with the veteran actor at the film ‘Kokadeuta Nati Aru Hati’ released in 1984.
Born in 1947, Nipon Goswami is regarded as one of the prime actors of the golden era of Assamese Cinema.
Goswami graduated in acting from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and acted in a number of popular Assamese films before beginning his acting career on theatre stage.
Some of his key films include Piyoli Phukan (1957), Dr Bezbaruah (1970), Aparupa (1982), Shakuntala Aru Sankar Joseph Ali (1984), among others.
As per reports, Goswami would receive state felicitation form the Assam Government.
