Air India crash: Indian PM meets lone survivor, visits crash site

Global Desk/India: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited the crash site of the Air India flight in Ahmedabad. Sharing pictures of the site filled with derbies of the Boeing plane on social media, the Prime Minister expressed his sympathies and said that the scene of devastation is saddening. He also said that he had met the officials who are working tirelessly in the aftermath of the tragedy.

He also met the lone survivor of the incident Vishwash Kumar Ramesh in the hospital along with the injured individuals and assured the that the nation is with them and their families in this tough time.

Besides holding a review meeting with the top authorities in Ahmedabad airport to, the Prime Minister also met the CEO of Air India to investigate the crash.

The actual cause of the incident is being thoroughly examined, with a joint investigation team of India and the UK working together. As per the reports from the local media, the black box has been recovered from the site of the crash. The DNA tests are also underway to identify the victims.

On Thursday, 12 June 2025, Air India’s AI-171, which was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner had crashed seconds after taking off from the Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat, India. To go with the viral footages of the incident, the airplane crashed onto a residential area, reportedly a medical school hostel. Reports also confirm that 242 people were on-board, including 12 crew members. the passengers comprised 169 Indians, 53 british nationals, 7 Portugueese nationals and 1 Canadian national. The survivor is a british national of Indian origin.

The tragic incident has elicited an outpouring of sorrow and solidarity from across the globe.
