India: Consumption of beef banned in Assam
India/Regional Desk: The Government of Assam has announced a complete ban on the serving and consumption of beef in public places in the state.
Earlier, it was restricted to limited places, however, with the latest amendment of the law the prohibition of its consumption and serving would be restricted across the state, including hotels, restaurants, public events, and other community festivals.
Even though India is a Hindu majority country, which worship cows, beef consumption is still prevalent among certain religious groups and regions.
