Spain win Euro, England’s heartbreak continues
Sports Desk: Sapin are the Euro champions again. On Sunday, Spain defeated England 2-1 in the final of the European Championship finals in Berlin.
Spain’s Oyarzabal scored at the 86th minute, which gave the English side too short time to make a come back.
Earlier, Spain led at the beginning of the second half with Nico Williams scoring at the 47th minute. After making a couple of substitution, England managed to level with substitute Cole Palmer magnificent goal. However, after the second goal from Spain which came like a surprise, England could not make a come back for the second time and take the match to extra time.
Since 2008 this is Spain’s fourth major trophy after having won the Euros consecutively in 2008 and 2012.
Meanwhile, this is England’s consecutive loss in the Euro final after they failed to convert the penalty shoot-outs in 2021 against inexperienced Italy. England’s inability to win a major trophy after 1966 with heartbreaks after heartbreaks has continued again this year, even though had one of the best team in the world and billed as one of the favourites to be the champion.
England’s coach Gareth Southgate has resigned following the defeat, and the hunt for a new coach who can change the team’s fortune in 2026 world cup has already began.
