India: After the conclusion of the general elections in India, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has stated that India made a world record with the participation of 642 million voters in these elections.

The chief of the ECI said this through a press briefing in New Delhi just ahead of the counting of the votes to be held on 4th June 2024.

The ECI mentioned the voters have surpassed the G7 nations and 27 countries of the European Union in these elections.

It also stated that women have also participated in large numbers with 312 million women voters which is also 1.25 times voters of the 27 EU countries in their last election.

Moreover, the ECI also highlighted the home voting facility, which was introduced for the first time in the history of Indian general elections enabling 85+ years old and PwD voters to cast their vote from the comfort of their homes.

By expressing its gratitude to the voters, the ECI further said in a social media post that “642 million voters chose action over apathy, belief over cynicism and in some cases ballot over bullet.”

The Indian general elections this year ran for 75 days and were competed in seven phases across the nation.
