Severe heat wave expected to hit India, warns IMD
Climate Desk: Severe heat wave is likely to be experienced in several parts of India in the coming days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heat wave alerts for numerous isolated pockets of eastern India and Maharashtra.
In recent social media posts the IMD warned that the sub-Himalayan regions, parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar could be subject to ‘severe’ heat wave conditions in the coming days.
It also reported that the maximum temperature in certain parts of eastern India were observed to reach above 45 degrees. As per its data, Baripada in Odisha encountered a maximum temperature of 45.2. Likewise, Bankura in West Bengal witnessed a temperature of 44.6 on 20 April 2024.
On the contrary, the IMD also issued thunderstorm and heavy rainfall alerts for south and northeast India during the same period.
