Global Desk: Argentina has elected a man with a chainsaw as its new leader. Javier Milei, who campaigned with a chainsaw has been elected as the new president of the Latin American nation.

Milei, who is a far-right leader defeated the current centre-left leader and the economy minister Sergio Massa in the recently held election.

Argentina at the moment is facing one of its worst economic crisis, with its yearly inflation surging to reportedly 140 per cent. Its currency Argentine Peso has almost crashed, and its citizens are enduring poverty.

In order to improve the current situation, Milei has vowed to cut taxes, replace its local currency with the US Dollar, close its central banks, among others.

Besides, he has also committed to fight against socialism and consider nations that are against socialism.

Alternatively, he also wishes to ban the practice of abortion and make the gun laws more lenient.

Following his victory, he stated on social media that after decades of failure, this outcome was an opportunity to turn the sad page where the same people were in power and do something different.

His ascent has also been regarded by critics as the victry of the far-right, similar to Donald Trump.
