Business Desk: Will you have to pay to use social media in the future? Soon you might have to. Twitter (X) owner Elon Musk has suggested that the multi-blogging social media platform may not be free anymore.

While speaking at an online conversation on AI with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Musk said that the brand is thinking of making X a paid social media platform where users might have to pay a small monthly subscription fee.

Musk stated that such a move was necessary to tackle the problem of growing number of bots on the platform.

“It’s the only way I can think of combating the vast armies of bots”, he justified.

He also added that this this will discourage bot creations because every time a user would want to create a bot for the platform he would have to look for a new payment method.

Alternatively, during the conversation Musk also shared the latest metrics of X with the Israeli PM. He revealed that the platform has 550 million users with 100 to 200 million posts daily.

Musk however did not disclose the amount the subscribers have to pay in order to use the platform. Besides, he did not say anything about the date or time of its effectiveness.
