Neeraj Chopra wins gold at World Athletics Championships in Budapest
Sports Desk: Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has clinched a gold in the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.
On Monday, the charismatic Indian’s best javelin theow reached a mammoth 88.17m in the men’s finals.
During his championship throw, Chopra was seen sprinting towards the border line and threw the javelin with all his strength. He looked confident enough after the throw and did not look back how far the javelin would fly.
Chopra’s counterpart from Pakistan Arshad Nadeem, who is being seen as one of his main rivals during recent years finished second with a throw of 87.82m.
Apart from Chopra, two other Indians were part of the finals, although they couldn’t manage a podium finish.
By congratulating the champion, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet stated that Chopra exemplified excellence and his ‘dedication, precision, and passion’ made him a ‘symbol of unparallel excellence in the entire sports world.’
The World Athletics Championships which were hosted by Hungarian capital Budapest was held from 19 to 27 August 2023. It witnessed numerous track and field champions from around the world in a remarkable amalgamation of talents.
Neeraj Chopra is the only Indian to have won a gold at these championships.
