India reaches the moon! Becomes the first country to land on its south pole
Sci-Tech Desk: India has successfully completed its Chandrayaan 3 lunar mission by landing on the moon on 23 August, 2023.
The mission led by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) went according to plan after its Vikram lander completed a soft landing on an area in the southern pole of the moon.
The mission was telecasted live in India, which was watched by millions of people. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present on the occasion.
“India, I reached my destination and you too!’ :Chandrayaan-3…..Chandrayaan-3 has successfully soft-landed on the moon !. Congratulations, India!,” ISRO tweeted soon after the completion of the landing.
With this milestone, India has become the fourth nation after US, China, and USSR to have reached the moon.
However, India has also become the only country to have landed on the south pole of the moon that has been unexplored yet. This is a vital area because it is said to have the possibility of ice water and other important features that could lead to crucial information about its past and also help in future space explorations.
India’s remarkable feat has been applauded around the world.
“Congratulations @isro on your successful Chandrayaan-3 lunar South Pole landing! And congratulations to #India on being the 4th country to successfully soft-land a spacecraft on the Moon. We’re glad to be your partner on this mission!,” said NASA chief Bill Nelson.
