Lionesses defeated by Spain in FIFA women’s World Cup final
Sports Desk: England have again failed to bring the World Cup home. The Lionesses have been defeated by Sapin 1-0, who have won their first FIFIA world cup title.
Spain’s Olga Carmona is the only goal scorer of the match on the 29th minute, after which England was unsuccessful in getting an equaliser with only three shots on target.
Overall, Spain also fared better in possession and pass accuracy than England with the former having a possession of 58 per cent compared to England’s 42 per cent.
England coach Sarina Wiegman in the post-match presentation stated that she was disappointed. She also said that they gave everything to the match, although Spain was very strong and played lot better than England.
England, who are the current European champions were one of the favourites to win the title.
The world cup was jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand this year. Sweden finished third in the tournament by outplaying Australia in the third place’s playoff.
